Idlewild Park Hosts Whiz Kidz

The Environmental Idlewild Park Center hosted their weekly event, Whiz Kidz Science Zone, at their main location. The event is free and open to public children ages seven to 12 every Saturday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M.

The goal of the center is to promote awareness of all things that come under that title environmental science. The center is a new site in Springfield Gardens and has been open for over a year.

Barbara Brown, the chief director of Idlewild Park Center, discussed the types of science experiments the elementary school children partake in. “One exercise they do is looking at the selenite in the water,” Brown said. “And they look at experiments of water with salt versus water without, and the effects it has on our bodies, other organisms’ bodies, and the well- being of our planet.” She continued, saying that a vast majority of the experiments involve “mainly chemical reactions that would affect the Earth.”
