The King Manor Museum and the Queens Library collaborated to host the “Touch Objects” exhibition on Aug. 22. The event was free to the public and allowed children to interact with artifacts from the museum. The objects were from 150 to 200 years old and allowed the opportunity to feel physical history.
Some artifacts that were provided were tea from the Boston Tea Party, a miniature gavel and an American Revolutionary cannon ball.
Abigail Waldron, the education and programs coordinator at the King Manor Museum, described the uniqueness of the event. “Usually in museums you aren’t allowed to touch things,” Waldron said. “Our oils on our hands can damage the very things we want to preserve. So that’s why it’s cool to do something like this so people can have that type of experience. It’s cool to actually feel some history rather than just see it or read about it.”
