The Queens Public Library hosted their Mobile Food Pantry at their Rochdale Village Branch on October 28th. This pantry has been happening weekly for almost a year to give resources back to the community.
Fresh produce, protein, and shelf-stable items were distributed to people who attended with shopping carts. People were also given the opportunity to learn more about library cards and the offers that the Queens Library has to offer.
The Early Literacy Specialist Outreach of the Rochdale Village Branch, Maya Prashad, spoke about the reasoning for doing events like this and its effects on its attendees. “Well I know specifically for the library, I know people don’t come as often as they did before,” Prashad stated. “So I think it’s really important that people see that the Library isn’t a place for just books. We offer many amenities, helpful events like this one, and other resources. We really want to help the community.”
