The King Manor Museum hosted Hands-On History: Trekkies, Unite! on May 4th. The event celebrated Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek.
Janeway was the actress from the 1950s to the 1980s who played Spock’s mother in Star Trek. People who attended the event could do puzzles and participate in other Star Trek-related activities.
Abigail Waldron, the Education and Programs Coordinator at King Manor Museum, shared why Janeway was important to movies. “Well there is a legacy with Star Trek,” Waldron stated. “Stark Trek had the first interracial kiss on television which came out in 1968. So at the time considering where the world was in terms of racial issues, it was pretty groundbreaking.”
Hands-On History is a free family program series held at King Manor on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 1 to 4 pm.
