JCAL Hosts Closing Reception for Evolution

The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning hosted a closing reception for its Evolution exhibit. The event was free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages.

The reception marked the last day of the ten-month group residency’s exhibit being shown in the gallery. Fantastic music was played with refreshments and wine were being served. Guests had the chance to bid on art pieces that they enjoyed.

Curator Lisa Wade

Jamie Todd, one of the artists whose work was exhibited, shared her insights on why she loves art. “Art is like oxygen to me and I’ve been using it all my life,” Todd stated. “It’s a way of expressing what’s going on within myself but also as a witness to what’s going on with political issues.” She continued by saying she sees herself as a “visual scribe”.
