The Black Spectrum Theatre hosted History in the Park: Black Inventors at Roy Wilkins Park on July 9th and 10th. The event was free and open to the public.
The event – which showcased everyday items invented by black people – began with a workshop inside the theater where attendees learned about tools used in the 1800s. Later, attendees were treated to a play on black inventors.
Production Manager Ashlee Doyle shared why she was so excited about the event. “Well it’s putting a light on one of the talented black actors in the Black Spectrum Theater,” Doyle stated. “This company has been performing non-stop to deliver this powerful message. It’s also important to get the Queens community together and educate them because this is stuff that we usually don’t learn about.”
