The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning hosted an artist talk for its current “Afro-Latinx Mixtape” exhibition on August 10th. The event was free and open to the public.
The exhibit shows the combination of African and Latin visual arts. The fifteen featured artists used the impact of reggae, blues, salsa, Afrobeats, and other cultural sounds, to influence their artworks. Using different colors and strokes to note different emotions of dance was key to all of the artists.
The event involved a Q&A panel with three of the featured artists to discuss what inspired them.
