NYC Reads Hosts Free Community Event

On October 25th the NYC Reads Initiative hosted a free community event at South Jamaica’s Public School 40. The all-age-friendly event was free and open to the public.

Children were given multiple opportunities to participate in different activities. There was a gigantic bouncy house with a slide. Queens Library also made an appearance to show off its new mobile library to the public as well. Children were invited to have their faces painted and to take a book home!

Atolani Lapido, one of the members of NYC Reads Initiative shared why it’s important to have such events. “Well it’s about giving back to the community,” Lapido stated. “We just want to do what we can to make sure that our kids are learning and getting the proper help they need to be successful in school.”
