Council Member Brooks-Powers Hosts Annual Family Day

NYC Council Member Selvena N. Brooks-Powers held the 31st Council District’s Annual Family Day on August 10th at Brookville Park. The event was free and open to the public.

Vendors and organizations joined the celebration in the park. The event included free games such as tug-of-war and knockerball. The event also featured free cotton candy, popcorn, and food from Truth’s Restaurant and Lounge located at 229-15 Merrick Boulevard.

Towards the middle of the venue was a stage in which a DJ was jamming some of the hottest music of the summer.

Rahiem Bush from BeingEgypt shared why he thought these kinds of events were important. “Well, we want to establish a neighborhood,” Bush stated. “And in order to do that, we need to change our “hood” into neighbors. So we can come together as a community and break bread and give back to the youth because it is all about the children.”
