Council Member Nantasha Williams Hosts 3rd Annual Silent Disco

Young, old — and everybody in between — were in the Roy Wilkins Park Recreation Center house for New York City Council Member Nantasha Williams’ third annual silent disco on Friday, March 27th.

The room was quiet, because folks were getting their proverbial grooves on while listening to headsets that featured the option to listen to one of three music streams.

The first stream was live and featured DJ LP, who spun everything from “All The Single Ladies” to “The Cupid Shuffle”. Her stream was complemented by two others, each featuring playlists programmed by the vendor providing the silent disco technology.

You could tell which stream folks were listening to by the color radiating from their headsets. It was clear that DJ LP was the favorite, as most the headsets were blue – her stream – throughout the evening. This probably had a lot to do with the fact that she was on-site and could read the crowd, adjusting the playlist accordingly.

When asked about the occasion, Council Member Williams shared that the event is, “for every single person in the family, from the little ones to our golden seniors.” The goal of the event is “to bring everybody together to listen to music on their own time and just vibe.”

Everyone was indeed vibing, and a good time seemed to be had by all. Three hundred people had registered for the event.

Next up, according to the Councilwoman’s Budget Director — Clothilde Hakuna — is the Councilwoman’s Spring Fest scheduled for April 18th in Archie Spigner Park. Scheduled for that event are pony rides, bounce houses, composting, and more.
