Department of City Planning Hosts Community Meeting for the Jamaica Neighborhood Development Plan

The NYC Department of City Planning held a community meeting on Thursday, March 6, at York College to discuss the ongoing Jamaica Neighborhood Plan. The event was open to the public.

The Jamaica Neighborhood Plan, which began to take shape in 2023, focuses on enhancing the local Jamaica area while preserving its unique and diverse culture. The planned zoning changes aim to increase available housing, particularly low-income housing, and develop Jamaica as a transit hub as well as a center of culture and commerce, all while ensuring that the changes are environmentally friendly and benefit the local community.

The NYCDCP has finished a draft of the Jamaica Neighborhood Plan, which will be released to the public within the month.

Councilmember Nantasha Williams addressed the community and introduced the next step of the Neighborhood development plan. This step will focus on refining the draft through a series of community board meetings over the next six months before finalizing an actionable plan to oversee Jamaica’s growth over the next fifteen years.
