Cultural Collaborative Jamaica hosted Jamaica Jams on Aug. 4 and 5. The event occupied the majority of the streets of Jamaica Avenue, where various street vendors attended to advertise and sell their products.
One vendor, Oak Street Health, made an appearance at the festival to inform people about possible health care benefits. One of representatives of the company, Joshua Bryant, gave details on the services offered. “Oak Street Health is a primary care physician for seniors on Medicare,” Bryant said. “In addition to us being a medical clinic, we do events for seniors in the community in the Jamaica area. We do events like Bingo Mondays, senior day parties on Wednesdays and we do activities all through the week.”
Bryant also expressed his gratitude to the festival. “We are thrilled to be here to share to our community potential opportunities.”
The Jamaica Center of Arts and Learning celebrated hip-hop’s 50th birthday with performances from various groups and acts, ranging from break dancing to live beat production leaving the crowd in awe.
