JPAC Hosts “Sound of Southside” Premiere

The Jamaica Performing Arts Center hosted the Sound of Southside World Premiere at their location on Jamaica Avenue. The event was jam packed with attendees that were here to support the film.

Tyrel Hunt, the director of the film, originally wrote it as a book. Afterwards, he adapted it into a feature movie. Hunt describes the film as “The Sound of Southside tells a story of a young jazz musician who is trying to continue his father’s legacy and open a jazz club. However, in the process of that he gets caught up in the wrong crowd.”

The movie is related to inner city life and difficulties being a Jazz musician in the local Jamaica area. Speaking to the star actor of the film, James Ross, he describes being the lead of the film and the experiences he encountered. “It was definitely a great experience. Our director Tyrel had a vision from the beginning. So it’s very comfortable working for someone who knows exactly what they want. Everybody on set was extremely fun to work with and everyone was extremely talented.” Ross then explains his perspective on the film and what the audience should expect. “The film is about Jamaica Queens and you really feel that and we spent every scene filming right here.”
