Kiechen Smith Appointed Interim Head Coach For York College Athletics

York College Interim Director of Athletics, Chris Monasch, appointed Kiechen Smith as Interim Head Coach for York College’s Cross Country / Track & Field men’s and women’s teams.

Smith helped develop younger athletes as head coach of track and field for the City Parks Foundation from 2005 to 2017 – a foundation dedicated to transforming parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community building, and education programs for all New Yorkers. Smith was also the head coach of track and field at Christ The King High School in Queens, NY.

Smith is no stranger to collegiate competition as he competed in NCAA Division I track and field at St. Francis College. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in professional studies in 2010. Smith also trained with the Trinidad National Team for the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics.

Per York Athletics, Interim Director of York Athletics Chris Monasch is excited for Smith in his new role as Interim Head Coach. “We are excited to introduce Kiechen Smith as he takes the helm of our men’s and women’s cross-country and track and field programs. Along with the opening of our new outdoor track in the coming weeks, I strongly believe that coach Smith’s experience, energy, and leadership will lead York College back to a level of accomplishment the school has historically enjoyed.”

Interim Head Coach Smith stated, “I am very excited and thankful to embark on this new journey as the head coach of the Cardinals’ cross-country and track and field programs. We have great expectations of taking it one step at a time to new heights. We can’t wait to get started.”
