The Queens Public Library hosted its annual Ralph’s McDaniels’ All-Vinyl 45s Hip Hop and Soul Brunch on January 25th. The event – free and open to the public – was streamed on Instagram Live.
McDaniels, a Queens Public Library Coordinator, masterfully spun hip hop, soul, funk, and disco from his “old school” collection of vinyl 45’s.
McDaniels began his livestream with Mary J. Blige before transitioning to the next song and asking the audience a question. He asked if people knew the artist that is being played. A viewer replied correctly with Freda P. McDaniels proceeded to say “Yes you’re right Freda P is the artist. But do you know who sampled this?” The mystery is still unsolved.
