The New York City Department of Small Business Services’ Business Solution Center (BSC) hosted a BSC Crawl 2025 stop in Jamaica.
The goal of the BSC – a mobile unit – is to share valuable information to people interested in running and managing a small business. The mobile unit visits all five boroughs and offers literature on how to properly fund a business and what government services are available to keep it running smoothly.
Dynishal Gross, the commissioner of the Business Solutions Center, told us why it’s important for her to host these events. “We want people to know about us. If we are a kept secret, then we aren’t doing our job because we don’t reach out to the masses,” Gross stated. “We do this every year, and today we are on the streets of Jamaica. We know the passion and soul of the inner city communities are our small businesses, so we want to help people grow.”
She continued by describing the types of services they offered. “We want people to be aware of how to start. If you want to have your own hair business, it’s doable, but what are the proper regulations? If you want to own your own podcast, do you form an LLC or organize as an S-Corp? We are just here to give people answers that aren’t typically found.”
