R&B Rises Up at Roy Wilkins

Rise Up NYC – a concert series presented by New York City Mayor Eric Adams – hosted the second of two days of concerts at Roy Wilkins Park on Sunday, August 17th. The event was free and open to the public.

On day two, R&B talent from the 90s and 2000s was in the spotlight. The lineup included Bobby V (Bobby Valentino), Mya, and Trey Songz.

Known for his smooth vocals, Bobby V was a colossal hit maker in the 2000s. With his vocals on the chorus of the classic song “Mrs. Officer”, he had the crowd making siren sounds loud and proud. Valentino is also known for his hit songs, “Slow Down” and “Anonymous”. His crooning brought the crowd back to the early days of R&B.

Mya has been a significant force in the R&B scene since the late 1990s. She first made an impact with her song “It’s All About Me”, and continued with the biggest hit of her career “Case of the Ex”. She then joined Lil Kim and Christina Aguilera on the hit song “Lady Marmalade”.

Last but definitely least, the inimitable Trey Songz took the stage. Known for his falsetto vocals, the songs that Songz performed included “Say Aah”, “Bottoms Up”, and “Gotta Go”.

The concert also featured guest appearances from the legendary DJ Kid Capri, hip hop icon Mr. Cheeks from the Lost Boyz, and singer Jeff Redd.
