Senator Leroy Comrie Hosts MLK Jr. Day Event

Senator Leroy Comrie and the Jamaica Center of Arts and Learning hosted the tenth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center. The event was free and open to the public.

This year’s theme was “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.” The event served as a platform for the community and its leaders to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy and address the ongoing fight for civil rights.

Special guests included Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, NYS Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, Congressman Gregory Meeks, NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, and more.

The spokesperson for the event stated, “We honor the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” She added, “A beacon of hope and justice, his vision of equality and unity continues to inspire us to protect freedom and democracy through nonviolent action. Together, we can uphold his dreams and create meaningful change for generations to come.”
