SEQ Cleanup Hosts SEQ Sowing Seeds

SEQ Cleanup hosted the third annual SEQ Sowing Seeds on Tuesday, November 7th at Roy Wilkins Park. The event was sponsored by several New York City Council Members who represent Southeast Queens.

SEQ stands for South East Queens Cleanup and was founded during the COVID shutdown. The CEO of the organization, DJ Nett, found local parks and landmarks within her own neighborhood and decided to take action.

Over 75 volunteers attended the event and participated by raking leaves, planting daffodil bulbs, and cutting down the weeds that have been growing along Merrick Boulevard for quite som time.

Nett describes the importance of doing clean-up within her community and how it can make a positive impact. “The main objective is to inspire community members to do their part,” Nett stated. “A lot of times people point the finger saying, “Parks should be doing this. Sanitation should be doing this. Or this elected official should be doing this.” But sometimes it starts with ourselves.” She continued by saying it’s important to “Look into the mirror and ask what I am doing to make a difference.”
