York College Women’s Basketball fell to John Jay College by a score of 63-34 in a non-conference matchup inside the York College Gymnasium on February 15.
The first half saw John Jay showcase an exceptional performance on offense and defense, which led to John Jay leading the score by 37-13 before halftime.
Coming out of the locker room and halftime huddle, John Jay continued to convey their dominance on both ends of the court. John Jay would conclude and win the game by a score of 63-34 after the final whistle.
Despite York’s disappointing performance, they were not absent on the stat-sheet. Leading the York College Cardinals, Alicia Gumbs contributed a double-double with 23 points (3-of-7 3FG, 6-of-7 FT) and 13 rebounds, along with the team’s only three steals. Gumbs did not disappoint in showcasing why she was selected player of the week for York College Athletics. In addition to Gumbs, Imani Gibson grabbed 13 rebounds with six points.
Leading the stat-sheet for John Jay, Ashley Zeolla scored 13 points and secured nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Michaela Lattimore recorded a double-double with 10 points (4-of-7 FG, 2-of-3 FT) and 12 boards. Ayanna Edwards scored 10 points and had a game-high four assists.
The Cardinals shot 20.8 percent (11-of-53) from the floor, 25 percent (3-of-12) from the three-point line and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free-throw line. John Jay connected on 35 percent (28-of-80) from the field and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free-throw line.
