The King Manor Museum hosted Hands-On History: Victorian Valentine’s on February 10th.
Hands-On History is a free family program held on the first and third Saturdays of the month at King Manor from 1-4 pm. The event celebrated the season of love with Victorian Valentine’s. Attendees used different arts and crafts to design reproductions of historic patterns resembling the Victorian Era.
This Victorian Era witnessed the first premade Valentine’s Day cards sold in shops. At the time, people made collages of different photographs to display their love towards one another. They also made “Vinegar Valentines,” or reverse cards, used to show anger towards a former partner.
The Executive Director of King Manor Museum, Kelsey Brow, explained the importance of Hands on History. “We love to have different community events,” Brow stated. “Our family crafts days allow us to have intergenerational learning and hands-on experiences considering the defunding of the arts in schools.”
