Empower My Hood hosted its Second Annual Southeast Queens College Fair on October 21st at the Majority Life Center. The event was free to the public and included food, music, and fantastic information for attendees. Over 30 colleges made an appearance at the event.
Empower My Hood is a group whose mission it is: “To provide students with the necessary tools they need to achieve their academic and career goals.” The organization does so through programs and events that promote college readiness, by teaching proper school application processes and business mindsets.
The Second Annual Southeast Queens College Fair gave incoming college students an opportunity to receive information on programs and opportunities from colleges and universities. Everyone had a chance to speak with college representatives, and to participate in workshops and seminars.
Director of Brand Strategy, Atira B.E. Pressley, described the bigger purpose behind this event. “Our job is to help our community make informed and smart decisions,” Pressley stated. “We want to get them in rooms with people that look like them, who speak like them, and who act like them so they can know it is possible to receive their degree.”
