JPAC Hosts The Suchitra Sen Film Festival

The Suchitra Sen Film Festival was held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center on April 20th and 21st. It was free and open to the public.

Over a dozen short films, documentaries, and features were shown during the two-day festival, which also included vendors selling Bangladeshi garments, food, and accessories.

Suchitra Sen was an actress revered as a treasure in Bangladeshi culture. More than twenty movies from Bangladesh and West Bengal were shown during the festival. With both states speaking the language, both regions were given the opportunity to understand the movie.

One of the organizers of the event, Mitu Nagar, told us more about the event. “Suchitra Sen is our Marolyn Monroe,” Nagar stated. “She’s a beautiful woman and talented actress and she has so many amazing movies!”
