The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning hosted its third Meet the Playwright of the season on January 25th. The event was free and open to the public.
Meet the Playwright presents staged readings of works from local playwrights from November to February. A question and answer session followed the presentation. The curator of the event, Brenda Jones, introduced the work and managed the Q&A session.
The presentation began with a pre-show conversation with three interfaith thought leaders. After the pre-show conversation, the lights dimmed and Oud on the Tel – written by Tom Block and directed by Jesica Garrou – was performed. The play takes place after World War II and tells a story about a family of Jewish refugees from Europe. The goal of the play was to open difficult conversations within the Jewish Community.
