The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

The Jamaica Center of Arts and Learning presented Literature to Life: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao on November 9th. The play was free and open to the public.

The play – a theatrical adaptation of the Pulitzer-winning novel titled the same and written by Junot Diaz – tells the story of Oscar de Leon, “who obsesses over science fiction and fantasy novels, falling in love, and the curse that has plagued his family for generations. Despite the endless taunting from his friends, family, and foes, Oscar remains true to himself, as the family curse declares its power and the violence of Oscar’s family history collides with his present.”

The one-man show was 90 minutes long and was followed by an opportunity for attendees to share their thoughts via a survey.
