The evening of June 1st witnessed the kickoff of The Jamaica Dance Festival 2024 – this year’s iteration A Better Jamaica’s annual presentation of professional dance companies in downtown Jamaica’s Rufus King Park.
According to Greg Mays, Executive Director of A Better Jamaica, “Jamaica has a rich legacy of dance education but has not necessarily been known for its dance presentation. The Jamaica Dance Festival is our contribution to changing this dynamic.”
Saturday’s lineup included Wan Chi Ming Dragon and Lion Dance Team, Obremski Works, and Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet.
The festival will unfold over the course of the next three Saturdays – June 8th, June 15th, and June 22nd.
The following companies are scheduled to perform:
Saturday, June 8th – Michela Marino Lerman + Pedro Giraudo Tango Company
Saturday, June 15th – Ballet Inc. + Nélida Tirado Flamenco / Arte 718 + Thomas/Ortiz Dance
Saturday, June 22nd – Jiva Dance + Brooklyn Ballet
All of the shows are scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
